Don't Sell Your Home Before Reading This

When the time comes to sell your home there are a few things you need to do before it goes on the market and you have potential buyers looking around. You have to ensure everything is in place and the whole house is tidy top to bottom before even considering inviting people in.

So let's take a look at what you can do to speed up the selling process and have buyers wanting to snap your house right up.

Declutter

The very first thing you should think about doing, even before photographing the property for the online adverts is declutter. When prospective buyers come and look around your home they don’t want to see your stuff all over the place they want to be able to imagine their own belongings filling the space.

You might be asking the question, how do I declutter my home? There is a really simple way to do this, go room to room and create three separate piles. The first pile is stuff you want to keep, the second pile is made up of stuff to throw away and the last one is your belongings that are still in good condition but you want to sell it on. You could hold a garage sale and make some money for the house move.

Clean

The next step after you have decluttered is to do a thorough deep clean of your property, every room will need to be cleaned and wiped down. Floors will need to be mopped and steamed, carpets will need to be hoovered and shampooed. This ensures the house is sparkling and looking the best it possibly can for when people come to view it.

If you don’t want to do this yourself then you can call and arrange for the professionals to come in and do it for you. They will ensure every room is thoroughly cleaned and get to places you may have overlooked, around the edge of the bath for example.

When you have cleaned it might be a good idea to get a hunter air purifier to get rid of the bleachy, chemical smells within your home. An air purifier takes the surrounding air, sucks it inside itself, filters it, and then expels the clean filtered air so you have a constant stream of clean, fresh air.

Curb Appeal

Finally, you should think about taking care of the exterior of your home like you have done with the inside. The outside of your property is the first thing prospective buyers will see when they turn up at your house so it has to look inviting and welcoming. You can ensure it looks in good condition by mowing and watering the lawn regularly and painting the house if it is looking a bit worse for wear.

If the outside of your property looks tatty and unkempt then the people coming to see it may already develop opinions of the house before even seeing inside. They may think that if you can’t look after the garden and exterior then the inside will be a mess. It has been known for buyers to turn up and leave straight away as they haven't liked the look of the outside of the house.
