Life is expensive right now. There are no two ways about it. Many people are finding themselves struggling to keep on top of their bills and essential outgoings, nevermind funding the extras that so many of us want to enjoy - whether that’s cinema, dining out, new clothes, gadgets or anything else that you may have on your wish list. This is largely due to a cost of living crisis sparked by the pandemic, wars across the world and all sorts of economic issues coming to the surface of world finances right now. Of course, there’s little that many of us can do about these major issues causing a cost of living crisis, but we are having to figure out how we’re going to get by, supporting ourselves and our families and staying out debt as best possible. Of course, the best method for you will depend entirely on you, your personal circumstances, your time availability, your skillsets and all sorts of other personal factors. But here are a few suggestions that you might find meet your needs.

Cash In On a Talent or Skill

If you have a specific talent or skill, you may be able to sell it to others. If you are great at knitting, you could start your own business selling knitted scarves, hats, gloves, blankets and other items through an online platform like Etsy. If you can bake, you may want to look into baking birthday or wedding cakes for different events. If you can speak a language, you may be able to make some money by teaching online or in person. If you play an instrument, you could be paid to play at bars or events, such as a pianist at a local bar or a violinist for a corporate gig. Look into what you might be able to make from the skillsets you already have in place. Of course, you do need to remember that if you’re making consistent income from this, you will have to register as self employed and pay tax on the amount you’ve earned at the end of each tax year.

Sell Unwanted Belongings

So many of us have a host of belongings that we neither want nor need. Take a look at the items in your home and start to sort through them. Determine which you actually use, which have a purpose in your life, which are sentimental or decorative and that you enjoy. Then, take the items that don’t tick any of these boxes and see if you can sell them. There’s bound to be someone out there who will want what you’ve got and you can make a fair amount clearing out multiple belongings. The extra benefit here is that your home will be decluttered and a much more pleasant space to spend time in too. Most people find that using online auction platforms like eBay, or that attending a car boot sale, tend to work well for this type of money making plan.

These are just a couple of ideas to get the ball rolling with making some extra money during these hard times. Hopefully, some will serve to put a little cash in your account!
