Moving house is exciting and a big change for you and your family. Yet it is also something that is a lot more of a hassle than you might expect and can be stressful if you aren’t prepared. If you are someone that has moved fairly often you are probably more than ready, but if you haven’t moved for a long time then it can be a worrying time. This is why we have come up with some top tips that should help you move with a hassle-free experience. Whether you are moving around the block or looking to move further afield, read on to find out about what things can make it that bit easier.

Be logical when packing

One of the most important parts of moving is getting everything organised and ready for when you go. Hiring vans and lorries to move can be expensive so you want to ensure you can get it done as smoothly as possible. The cost to move across Canada is something you need to factor in so you want to be ready. Pack your boxes according to room and try to pack things onto the van last that you are going to need first - such as refreshments like coffee and snacks.

Have your kids and pets sent off somewhere to be looked after

While you might love your children and dog to the end of the earth, they are realistically more of a hindrance than a help when it comes to moving. You want to be able to get on with sorting everything out without worrying about where they are and what they are up to. Instead, speak to a friend or relative to see if you can have them looked after while the brunt of the move is taking place. This will make it a much easier experience when the day does come round. If you can’t get babysitters, have plenty of toys to keep them entertained and try to keep them in one room so you can keep an eye on them.

Start decluttering well ahead of time

The earlier you get organised, the better it is all around. By sorting out your things slowly and methodically you don’t have all the stress that comes with a last minute pack. You want to start afresh when you move, so don’t need to take endless amounts of clutter with you. There are many ways you can effectively get rid of any unneeded items, from compartmentalising items you haven't used in the past year, to seeing if you use something in the next few months. If not, it can go. By giving yourself lots of time you also won’t make any rash decisions.

These are just a few top tips for moving house that should offer you a hassle free experience. Moving is great and a fantastic opportunity to start fresh so if you can make it less stressful that’s the best thing all around. Have you recently moved house?
