What to Do if You Find Mouse Droppings at Home

There is nothing worse than trying to settle down for a night of sleep and hearing scratch, scratch, scratch. There's nothing worse than being in the garden and being bombarded by flies. There's nothing worse than knowing that you have nests in your attic but you can't access them. Your home is your castle, and intruders and invaders are not welcome.

When you notice critters, or droppings in your house, you have to make sure that you are calling an exterminator to come and get rid of them. Your home should be protected from anything that could affect it on the outside, and that means you need to be aware of what to do if you find mouse droppings in the corners of your house. Are they mouse droppings? Who knows. Below, we've got some tips of what you should do if you spot droppings from somebody in your house, and it's not one of the kids!

  • Identify where they're coming from. Droppings are droppings, and you could always tell the difference between crumbs and a pile of poop in the corner. You have to identify what the droppings are to ensure that they are actually mouse droppings. They can be rat, Roach or even bat droppings, and mouse droppings will look like black grains of rice. Rat droppings are very similar to mouse droppings, but they are usually wider and longer than that. Roach droppings look like much smaller specks, and they can appear similar to ground black pepper. Before you call in the exterminator, make sure that you know what droppings they are.

  • Make a note of the location. Not only do you need to know what the droppings look like, but you need to know where they are located in your house so you can let the pest control people know. Weather found is a huge factor in identifying where the droppings are coming from because bat droppings are very rarely found where you would find mouse droppings. Usually, mouse droppings are found in kitchen cabinets or food storage areas. They can also be found in appliances or holes in the walls.

  • Calling the cleaners. Once you've determined the types of pests that you have going on in the house you need to get things cleaned up. Even if you've determined which droppings belong to who, you need to clean everything but you do need to call in an expert here because droppings can contain diseases. You have to ensure thorough sanitization in the areas where you find pest droppings in addition to just cleaning them up. You don't want to have any spread of disease where possible.

  • Remove the pests. If you notice that you are having pest issues you need to get rid of them and that means calling an exterminator or a pest control company to help. Don't try to do this yourself because there's every chance that you won't be able to get them out or they will just tunnel their way back in. It's why proper identification of presence is a super important. If you can identify what you are dealing with, you'll be able to get rid of them properly.
