Dog Owner? Here's Money Saving Tips You Need

We all know that dogs cost money and sometimes, they can cost a LOT of money. From their materials and accessories to their food, dogs can cost more than you’d hope - but they’re a fully fledged member of the family so they’re bound to cost more than you expect. Owning a dog is a huge responsibility and if you’re not willing to take that on you have to consider whether you should get a dog in the first place.

It’s your job to ensure that they get the best nutrients and have the best and most secure time in your home - and that means you need to spend some money at least. From looking at this link to find out how much training will be to ensuring that you are doing the right research to find the best of everything, you can ensure that you save money while you’re a pet owner and not get sucked into buying things that you really don't need. You probably don't need fifteen different chew toys, but you do need these tips to help you to save some cash along the way. There are certain things that you can’t change; such as the fact a Great Dane won’t be as small in their diet as a Chihuahua will be. They will eat more often and much bigger portions and we’ve got some tips that’ll help you to stretch your cash a little further.

  1. You can make your own dog toys. Dogs really only want to play with you and they want to have all of your attention. Of course, it’s not actually possible to do that all of the time so you can do your wallet a favor and make your own toys. You can use old clothes into balls, plastic bottles with treats rattling around inside them for them to work out and you can even find giant sticks in the park that you can clean down and use in the garden at home.

  2. You can make your own dog treats. One of the ways that you can save money on food is by making your own doggie biscuits and cakes. You just have to ensure that you keep them separate from your own so that you can avoid eating dog treats yourself. You can control the ingredients that go into them and you will save a lot of cash because it doesn't have to be expensive to make them, either.

  3. Don't skip on the vet visits. It is a costly exercise to take your dog to the vet but it will cost you much more in the long run if you don't take them regularly enough. If you don't take your dog to see the vet occasionally, the costs will be higher if they end up with an injury. Seeing the vet will save money in the long run because it’s preventative medicine rather than hospitalization or curative medicine. While we’re here, ensure that you have pet insurance. This small cost each month can make a very big difference to your dog.

  4. Invest in their dental hygiene. When it comes to pet teeth products you have to invest in the right ones early. Dental care for a dog can get pricey over time and if you have to have any of their teeth removed, it’ll be more expensive than you think. Brushing them every day will ensure that their teeth are clean and healthy. This will help you to avoid those big dental bills and save your cash over time.

  5. Look at your own kitchen for grooming. You can really get creative with your household supplies if you don't have the budget to go to a regular dog groomer for hair and nail clipping. For example, scotch tape is a great helper when it comes to clearing up hair from the furniture or the floor. If you use rubber gloves during bath time you’ll help to remove even more dead hair because they will cling to the rubber of the gloves. You can also make your own homemade dog shampoos and washes to keep their coats silky without irritating their skin along the way.

  1. Learn how to trim those claws. On the subject of all things grooming, your dog needs to have regular claw trims to keep their paws healthy and if you don't know how to do it yourself it’s time to learn so you can save the cash. You don't have to waste money to pay a groomer, you just have to make sure that you are following the correct way to do it so you don't end up cutting the skin.

  2. Buy long-lasting toys. We talked about making your own toys earlier on but you can also choose to buy the durable type of toys that won't break down in an instant. If you ensure that the toys you buy are tough ones, your dog will be able to chew happily for much longer than you think. They will last a much longer time before they have to be replaced and that will help you exponentially!

  3. Get discounts where you can. There are so many places you can bulk buy food and treats if you don't want to make them yourself. There are even places that cater for raw food diets in dogs, too. You can take advantage of coupons and free shipping, subscribed discounts and more because you are doing the right research.

  4. Home make the bed! A dog needs somewhere safe and comfortable to sleep and you can make a homemade dog bed for them so they don't get into yours. You should ensure that you have some material that isn't easily chewable, too!

It’s not just easier to save money as a dog owner, but it’s a must if you hope to ensure that your dog is happy for as long as possible. All of these things will help you in the long run and you can ensure that you are a responsible dog owner at the same time.
